Preloading assets (native target)

Is there a good way to preload assets? I currently have a 10 MB music file that is causing a significant delay between scenes and am looking for a way to create a loading screen but I can't seem to find anything that works.

I've tried two methods so far, the first being a URLRequest loaded by a URLLoader with a COMPLETE event that loads the level after making the data loaded an instance of Sfx. The second is pretty much the same but I used Assets.getSound. Neither load anything despite checking several times to make sure the sound in question is at the EXACT location I specified through tracing. Not to mention that the sound loads when loaded through the scene it's used in directly by loading it into an instance of Sfx.
